Working to create a cleaner, greener, safer world
What sets your organization apart from others and why should students consider working at Bechtel?
Bechtel prides itself on taking on the world’s mega projects. Our achievements include Hoover Dam, the English Channel Tunnel, the San Francisco and Portland light-rail systems, the first major pipeline across the Middle East and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Bechtel worked on the design or construction of more than half of the nuclear power plants in the U.S. and is building a city for 300,000 in the Saudi Arabian desert. Our university hire positions are for those who have recently graduated or will be graduating from a university in less than a year and are looking to launch their career. Our internship positions are great for current students who are a year or two away from graduation. Regional programs and opportunities are available in a variety of fields including engineering, construction, project controls, human resources, finance, supply chain management, IT, and more. There’s a good chance we have an opportunity that’s just right for you.
Tell us about your experience hiring Boilermakers. How do you identify top talent to join your organization?
Bechtel has enjoyed a strong partnership with Purdue! The university has created great opportunities for engagement and project opportunities to connect with students whenever we are on campus. This has led to successful outcomes in hiring for both our internship and graduate hire programs.
Can you share some of the contributions Boilermakers have made to your organization?
Keith Churchill, our Chief Innovation Officer is a Purdue graduate. Keith joined Bechtel in 2008 as a civil field engineer on our Motiva (U.S. Refinery) project. After serving on a number of projects, in roles of increasing responsibility, Keith joined corporate construction as operations manager. Prior to becoming our Chief Innovation Officer, Keith served as the corporate manager of construction technology, located at Bechtel’s Welding and Applied Technology Center (WATC). In this role, Keith’s focus was identifying, testing, and implementing new technology, materials, processes, tools, and equipment to improve productivity on projects, while further enhancing safety and quality.
How do you ensure success for new graduates for entry level positions and internships?
Our internship program gives undergraduates the opportunity to work on landmark projects or in offices around the world and help deliver extraordinary results to our customers. Interns and graduate hires learn how the business works, gain valuable experience, and make an impact on our customer’s projects, our communities, our culture, and our organization. Bechtel’s internship programs are intentionally designed to provide interns knowledge, experience, and skillsets to support them in their education and future.
